Venue Arsenale Cineclub
Opened in 1982 in the historic center of Pisa, Italy, the Cineclub Arsenale has become years an important cultural reality, and in 2014 it was awarded the Best Italian Cinema d’Essai Award. Each season the Cineclub screens over 220 films, favoring quality cinema, classics from the history of cinema, documentaries, independent films and films in original versions. Arsenale offers numerous events that include meetings with directors, artists and talents, introductions to films by critics and personalities from the world of culture, live musical accompaniments, readings and exhibitions, and over time attended by international names such as Pedro Almodovar, Wim Wenders, Jean-Marie Straub, Margarethe von Trotta, Peter Greenaway, Dario Argento, Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, Nanni Moretti, Gabriele Salvatores and Marco Bellocchio. Great attention is paid to the training of students and young audiences, through education projects, and there are many prestigious collaborations with numerous institutions, including major universities, film libraries, art museums and festivals such as the University of Pisa, the Scuola Normale Superiore, the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, the Experimental Center of Cinematography – National Film Archive of Rome, the National Cinema Museum of Turin and the Cineteca di Bologna.
