Martha Rosler

Martha Rosler (New York, USA, 1943) is a multidisciplinary artist with an extensive artistic trajectory that encompasses the analysis of diverse perspectives on the inherent fissures in contemporary society through photography, video, performance, installations and even interventions in audio-visual media characterized by a strong critique of the socio-political systems of the last decades of the 20th century. Her works are the result of a concise investigation of the relations between places and their inhabitants, urbanism and the dynamics of contemporary cities as well as problems of the everyday, all agents of postmodernity that Rosler uses as departure points in the configuration of an artistic and theorical body of work in which the feminist perspective plays a determining role. Her viewpoint has given rise to fundamental questions in the theory of contemporary photography such as the use of appropriated imagery and photography’s documental character.
