Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Rio Grande do Sul (MACRS)
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Rio Grande do Sul (MACRS), created in 1992, is a public cultural institution that aims to research, preserve and disseminate contemporary regional, national and international art.
Its mission is to develop educational proposals aimed at understanding art in its various modalities. Thus, MACRS has as its main task to be an institution that links and promotes dialogue between the great diversity of creative approaches in visual arts and contemporary artistic languages.
The Museum has more than 2,000 works preserved in its collection and seeks to stimulate knowledge through art exhibitions and socio-educational actions, being the bridge that connects the contemporary artist with society.
Since its foundation, it has been installed at the Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana, in Porto Alegre, and in 2019 it conquered its own headquarters in the IV District of Porto Alegre / RS, also known as Distrito Criativo, one of the most deprived regions of the local urban balance and, at the same time, with greater development potential in the city. This new social role makes MACRS transcend its headquarters, interacting with its surroundings, occupying other cultural territories and allowing itself to be occupied by the community, gradually transforming the neighborhood itself into a living Museum open to contemporary artistic manifestations.
