Pedro Vaz is currently a resident artist at Pivô, São Paulo, where he is developing the Caminho do Ouro project, which includes an expedition to the historic Caminho do Ouro. His work is currently shown at Pentimento, Anozero Biennial of Contemporary Art of Coimbra and Terra Firme, individual exhibition at Baró Jardins, São Paulo. He was supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Duplacena for the Monólito project (2013) and for the Tour du Mont-Blanc project presented by The Temps d’Images Portugal Festival, at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chiado, (Lisbon, 2014).
His work, mostly in painting and video installations, focuses on research about landscape. It carries out a reflection about the exercise of power inscribed in the cross between the artist’s capacity to represent and the representable condition of nature, implying what is meant by space, place and landscape. Personal contact with the place is essential to his practice and his projects often include an expedition.
