The Municipality of Oeiras will apply for the European Capital of Culture 2027. The formalization of the application was approved yesterday by the Municipal Executive, unanimously, in a Chamber Meeting.
Based on the idea of “City of Oeiras”, the application will be an instrument at the service of the organization of the territory, in its human and physical aspects.
Oeiras, located in the heart of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, will generate a cultural dynamic of national and international dimension, linking its various urban centers.
Rehabilitation of cultural heritage, creation of new cultural centers in the visual and performing arts, installation of creative industry nuclei, development of museological units, promotion of projects in the fields of literature, cinema and audiovisual, creation of articulation programs between education, science and culture, from projects to promote the coastal landscape and the system of parks, gardens, cycle and pedestrian circuits, promotion of a sustainable tourism strategy and interactions in the field of new technologies, are working parameters that will be present in the activity to be developed by the mission structure of the European Capital of Culture, in close connection with the Municipality’s services.
The involvement of citizens, associations and companies in the Municipality is an essential element of an application that seeks to be inclusive, plural and participated.
