CHRIS MARKER

Chris Marker was a French filmmaker, writer, photographer, editor and multimedia artist.

His work occupies a central place in the history of the essay film and experimental cinema.

Throughout his career, he repeatedly investigated the relationships between image, memory, history, travel and political transformation. In films such as La Jetée, Le Joli Mai, Sans Soleil and A Grin Without a Cat, he combined documentary cinema, fiction, photography, archives and philosophical reflection.

His practice also extended to video, installation and digital media, while consistently maintaining a singular and deeply experimental approach to the moving image.
